    Hi Jon,
    I used smashwords : they’re also free and will do the transforming into .mobi, epub, RTF, LRF (for Sony), PDB (for Palm) and of course HTML and Javascript for online reading. They get you an ISBN and ship to B&N, Sony, Kobo, Amazon and Apple too…supposedly my 8 ebooks have also shipped to Apple for the ipad- I was very excited to get an ipad today, but cannot find my stories- we cannot get ibooks yet in Canada. Too bad, so sad :( . Maybe your readers will be more fortunate/in demand!

    Wow, lots of copyright issues here!
    Unless you have permission from your publisher OR you’re self-publishing, this would violate copyright.

    Fascinating possibilities. Also thought a lot about publishing towards mobile telephones but…
    Either way; how about the financial issue? We are heading towards the same dilemma as the music industry. Free to publish but no bread :) ?!

    I’m with Michelle. I also use Smashwords and appreciate that they convert to every format and upload my ebooks to every major retailer: Apple, Amazon, Barnes&Noble etc. It is good to know this service digitizes print books. 2epub.com is also a great way to convert Word Docs to epub format fast, free and easy.
